Biography
Sylke Claridge
This body of work is strongly influenced by Henri Matisse, Kimura and the colour field artists.
It reflects my heritage through allegory and myth, my family interaction and the land which we occupy as custodians. It reminds us of the beauty we strive to preserve!
Colour creates an emotional resonance, a fusion in my mind of the air, land and Zeitgeist.
My goal is to fuse the tactile with spiritual truth, to infuse my artwork with energy. At the end the painting has to have a life of its own.
Picasso said ‘I don’t paint as I see, I paint as I think’.
I paint as I feel – I paint with my eyes shut but my mind open.
