The Darryl Nantais Gallery

The Darryl Nantais Gallery is an independent privately owned Gallery in the beautiful village of Linton, which is just over 10 miles south of the University City of Cambridge. The Gallery is housed in part of a row of terraced cottages called Chapel Terrace, which was built in the 1790s as workers cottages.

Linton can trace its history back to the Iron Age, when settlers established a community here between the 6th and 1st centuries BC. The Romans and the Anglo-Saxons followed, and by the Middle Ages Linton became a flourishing market town. The population of the village is now in the region of 5,000. The village retains much of its character from the Tudor and Stuart timber houses built along the High Street and the Lanes.

The Darryl Nantais Gallery was established in 2001 and is proud to be Sylke’s sole distributor in the United Kingdom. We are delighted that we have staged major exhibitions of Sylke’s work every two years (even numbers); October 2010 was our fifth, with Sylke attending all the Private Views. We have a wide collection of her paintings and are delighted that we are able to receive her new work direct from her studio in Sydney, Australia.

Sylke’s paintings are both refreshing and uplifting in their use of colour, subject and approachability. They are also a good reflection of the artist herself. Sylke is certainly one artist that with her paintings truly epitomises the principles that we at the Gallery hold dear, that of making art accessible and enjoyable. Her paintings create your own personal view and you find your own pleasure in them.

Sylke says, “Picasso said ‘I don’t paint as I see, I paint as I think’. I paint as I feel – I paint with my eyes shut but my mind open”.

A selection of her paintings can be viewed on the Darryl Nantais Gallery website.
